2-Day Birdwatching Journey: Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary & Burrowing Owls (Approx. 6–8 hours each day)

$600.00

Join us for an unforgettable two-day birding adventure through Southwest Florida’s most iconic habitats! We'll explore the lush old-growth cypress forests of Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary and venture into open prairies and urban green spaces to find the charismatic Burrowing Owl. This journey offers a chance to spot a wide variety of species, from secretive woodland birds to active ground-dwellers.

Day 1: Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary

We'll spend the day immersed in the rich ecosystem of Audubon's Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary, home to one of North America's largest remaining stands of ancient bald cypress. Birding from the boardwalk, we'll look for Painted Buntings, Limpkins, Swallow-tailed Kites, Barred Owls, Wood Storks, and a host of warblers and woodpeckers.
The sanctuary also offers excellent opportunities for photography with stunning backdrops of wetlands, prairies, and swamp.

Highlights:

  • Boardwalk birding through ancient cypress forest

  • Opportunities to see specialty species like the Wood Stork and Swallow-tailed Kite

  • Interpretation of the region’s unique ecosystem

Day 2: Burrowing Owls & Coastal Birding

Today we'll head south toward Cape Coral, known for hosting one of the largest urban populations of Burrowing Owls in Florida. We’ll visit protected nesting areas where we can safely observe these charming, ground-dwelling raptors as they perch, hunt, and interact.
Time and conditions permitting, we’ll also explore nearby coastal or prairie areas for additional species like Crested Caracaras, Loggerhead Shrikes, Bald Eagles, and shorebirds.

Highlights:

  • Close, respectful viewing of active Burrowing Owl burrows

  • Additional stops for raptors, grassland birds, and coastal species

  • Opportunities for great photography of rare and charismatic species

What's Included:

  • Expert birding guide

  • Transportation between sites (if applicable)

  • Admission to Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary

  • Water, snacks, and picnic lunches each day
